This blog came up suddenly after someone told me about something they saw american Attorneys doing to widows. We recently did a blog on Widows in our study of the book of Acts in the NT. But this blog will be about EVIL LAWYERS and how they DEVOUR WIDOW’S HOUSES in modern times in this ‘Christian nation’. One has to wonder if this evil scheme is the same type of thing that was done by the lawyers during Jesus’ time? Same thing during OT times too (lotta centuries of plundering there!)? One has to wonder!
What exactly were the lawyers doing to “devour widow’s houses”, you may ask? They were using their ESTATE PLANNING business to circumvent the ‘WILL’ of the WIDOW, who’s husband was deceased for many years. The gist of it is this: The lawyer talked the widow into putting her estate into a TRUST. Naturally the lawyer was the manager of the trust, which came with a price to their customer. End result: the estate manager has a GUARANTEED INCOME for the life of the estate.
The way the trust works is, the widow’s children were BYPASSED and didn’t receive one penny of the money the widow wanted to split 50/50 between them. Instead, the great great grand nephews got the money, but only as determined by the manager of the trust. Meanwhile the widow’s children were aged and sick, and in need of the money from the estate to pay their medical bills. But since they didn’t have any of that money, they had to rely on their kids to pay the bills. Their kids were middle aged and could hardly afford to pay for those high priced medical services. End result: The attorney gets a regular pay check out of the estate, the kids (intended recipients) got none of it, their kids have to pay out of their own pockets to help defray the costs of their parents’ medical treatments, the new recipients didn’t get any of the money yet, and the nobody can change the trust because it’s immutable (or whatever the evil lawyer wording is!). Meanwhile, the trust was being whittled down by the lawyers for every service they performed in connection with the trust. It’s a LEGAL WORK-AROUND which amounts to a violation of Commandment #10 in God’s Law: YOU SHALL NOT COVET.
Here’s what the Bible says about this kind of LAWYERING, which amounts to “legal plunder” by GOVERNMENT against defenseless widows:
And while all the people were listening, [Jesus] said to the disciples, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love respectful greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, WHO DEVOUR WIDOWS’ HOUSES, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation [on Judgment Day].” (Luke 20:45-47)
Jesus probably was referring to his Mosaic law:
“YOU SHALL NOT AFFLICT ANY WIDOW or orphan. If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless. (Exodus 22:22-24)
Remember: it’s the Talmudic financier who created this “legal plunder” system that ends in Expropriation:
Thus says the Lord God, “Enough, you princes of Israel; put away violence and destruction, and practice justice and righteousness. Stop your expropriations from My people,” declares the Lord God. (Ezekiel 45:9)
The prophets condemn such ‘works’ in clear language:
“Woe to those who enact evil statutes
And to those who constantly record unjust decisions,
So as to deprive the needy of justice
And rob the poor of My people of their rights,
SO THAT WIDOWS MAY BE THEIR SPOIL
And that they may plunder the orphans.”
(Isaiah 10:1-2)
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against THOSE WHO OPPRESS the wage earner in his wages, THE WIDOW and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien and do not fear Me,” says the Lord of hosts. (Malachi 3:5)
Historically speaking, James’ letter was written to the wealthy, to legal persons, and to the poor victims living in ‘Jewish’ society (the diaspora). Here’s his summary comment to them (don’t be fooled by the word “religion” in the verse, b/c the CONTEXT is talking about people who make their living using WORDS, esp. JUDGES, i.e., “teachers”):
“If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: TO VISIT orphans and WIDOWS IN THEIR DISTRESS, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. (James 1:26-27, cf. Isaiah 10:1-2)
Note that “visiting widows in their distress” is the exact opposite of PLUNDERING WIDOW’S ESTATES!
Paul transmits specific laws in 1 Timothy 5:3-16 on how Jesus requires WIDOWS to be treated in his ‘church’. He probably bases his halakha (legal determination) on Deuteronomy 14:29 and the legal traditions that developed between the days of Moses and Jesus.
On the origin of the phrase “legal plunder”. (That phrase occurs 37 times in the treatise!)
This level of legal plunder is a signal to those ‘with eyes to see’ that society is rotten to the core, ‘crashing and burning’ (as my old man would say), and will be its demise UNLESS the masses WAKE UP and REPENT:
“If … My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
